Preventing injury for in-home support workersWorkSafe

Campaign, collateral, illustration

Future workforce modelling predicts in-home support work to be one of the fastest growing industries in Australia and internationally. And, like many burgeoning sectors, it is an industry that is incredibly difficult to regulate.

Key safety concerns commonly reported by in-home support workers include occupational violence, gendered violence, and manual handling tasks, which can lead to psychosocial and physical injuries.

To support safe work within diverse home-based work environments, WorkSafe Victoria tasked us with designing Safe Support, an illustrated ready reference for clients, support workers and their employers.

The Safe Support booklet anticipates various issues that might arise and presents hypothetical scenarios that begin important stakeholder conversations. Used preventatively, it acts as a visual social compact, articulating ground rules for safety and respectful working relationships.

Soft, warm, colours and friendly, original illustrations demonstrate inclusivity and are easily comprehensible with limited accompanying text.
