Design Democracy is a female-led, multidisciplinary design studio crafting brands and experiences for social, cultural and environmental impact. The studio was founded by Creative Director Sonia Post in 2010.

We don’t see the branding process as a divide between strategy and design, instead we combine creative thinking with insights across strategy, design, messaging and digital. Design Democracy have designed and delivered campaigns that improve social and environmental outcomes since our inception. Combining creativity with commercial logic, we develop inclusive campaign creative that connects with the end user and drives engagement and growth. Our user-centric focus and extensive experience sees our team executing campaigns across motion media and animation through to social, ambient and outdoor.
We love to connect people to place, specialising in the creation of branded environments, signage and wayfinding, exhibition and event graphics for impact-led organisations both large and small. Many of our environmental design projects spring from our client branding and campaign work, and are testament to our focus on building strong ongoing relationships with our clients. Our expertise in this area is expansive and includes trauma-informed interiors for family violence centres, national signage guidelines for purpose-driven organisations, and blockbuster gallery exhibitions reaching broad audience appeal.
Publication design is an intrinsic part of our skillset and we design for both traditional print media and interactive digital formats with accessible formatting for print-disabled audiences. We bring longstanding, specialised experience in publication design – helping to transform documents into inspiring publications which engage readers across multiple platforms. At Design Democracy we work with our clients on transforming their publication offerings for varied audience requirements, designing corporate reporting as both printed publications and content managed websites; fully interactive and accessible PDF publications; books and editorial design.
We are experts in accessible PDF creation, publications specially designed to be read and navigated by people with print disabilities. While a standard PDF might just look like a flat digital image of a page, an accessible PDF includes hidden structural data that works with assistive technology such as screen readers or screen magnifiers. Many of our government and corporate reporting projects are produced as accessible format publications that mirror the look of the final printed document.
