New work from Design Democracy — and a project we are proud to have been part of. The Mental Health and Wellbeing Commission plays a vital role in shaping Victoria's approach to mental health — independently monitoring and reporting on the performance of the mental health and wellbeing system, and advocating for the rights of consumers, carers, families, and kin. When they came to us for design support, the work felt as meaningful as it was important.
We partnered with the Commission to create a suite of accessible guidance publications designed to help services embed mental health and wellbeing principles into everyday practice. These principles sit at the heart of Victoria's landmark mental health reforms — a system-wide shift toward greater dignity, choice, and inclusion for the people who need it most.
What made this project particularly special was the depth of collaboration throughout. Staff and stakeholders were genuinely involved at every stage of the process — bringing lived experience, sector expertise, and a shared commitment to getting it right. It is that kind of inclusive, people-led approach that produces work with real meaning, and it was a privilege to be part of a team that embraced it so wholeheartedly.
